Robert Earnest Boggs

Robert (Bob) E. Boggs (94) of Chillicothe, passed away on Wednesday July 22, 2026, at the VA Homeland Community Living Center. Bob was born on November 11, 1931, to the late Carl and Ada Watts Boggs in West Portsmouth, Ohio. After Carl's untimely death, prior to Bob's birth, he was raised by his mother and stepfather Leonard (Jack) Craycraft. On September 22, 1951, he married the love of his life Ellen M. Corrigan; they enjoyed (70) years of marriage until her passing on April 18, 2022.

Surviving our four daughters, Debra Boggs, Melinda Fisher, and Barbara Boggs of Chillicothe, OH. and Robin (Daryl) Knab of Calabash, NC; eight grandchildren, Ronald (Heidi) and Matthew (Sharon) Gillum; Nicolas (Hillary) and Jeffrey (Lindsay) Fisher; Traci (Jon) Click; Sarah (Cary) Eberts of Chillicothe; Amy Combs of Dayton, OH. and Brian (Amy) Knab of Holly Springs, NC. In addition, he has eighteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was predeceased by brothers Carl Jr., Homer, Thomas and William Boggs, and a grandson Dustin Gillum.

Bob retired from the B&O Railroad in 1989 after 35 years of service. Bob also worked for the Ross County Veterans' Service Commission for 15 years, retiring in 2004. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Radford from 1949-1953 earning the following medals: United Nations Service, South Korean Presidential, Navy Occupation Service, China Service, Good Conduct Service, National Defense Service and a Combat Action Medal.

At the age of 21 he was elected to a trustee position with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 108 and was the last remaining trustee who was responsible for building the existing post at the current location. Bob was a life member of VFW 108, American Legion Post 62, AmVets Post 4, the National Association of Atomic Veterans, and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Chillicothe where he served as the commander for ten years. He was also a life member of BOP Elks #52. Bob was especially proud of being able to start the transportation program for veterans in Ross County which transports veterans to and from appointments at the VA. Bob was able to do this with monetary donations and help from the various local veteran service organizations. Bob was a Kentucky Colonel, an Honorary West Virginian, a trustee for the Radford Museum which was originally located in New Philadelphia OH., and was presented the key to the city of Radford, VA. He also served as precinct committeeman for the Democratic Party for thirty-five years.

Bob loved spending time with his family, playing cards, reading, watching the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengals, Ohio State Football, golf tournaments, and old Westerns.

The family would like to thank the VA Homeland Community Living Center for the exceptional care they provided Bob for the past three years.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Haller's Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Margaret's Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation two hours prior to the service. Military graveside services will be conducted by Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to a Veterans Organization of your choice.
