Robert C. Barr, 80, of Chillicothe, died at 3:24am June 24, 2023, at home surrounded by family.
He was born April 14, 1943, in Chillicothe, to the late Samuel C. and Dorothy (Miller) Barr. On March 21, 1969, he married the former Nina L. Blickens, who survives.
In addition to his wife Nina, he is survived by nieces Tia (Richard) MacNerland, Lisa (Tommy) Jones, and Carla (Larry) Harrison. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nancy Johnson, Donna Barr, Anna Maria Coleman, Virginia Barr; and a nephew, Anthony "Biff" Johnson.
Bob was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, attended OU-C, University of Maryland and is a graduate of Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville. He completed a 2-year Commercial Pilot course at AG Aviation Academy in Nevada. He is a Marine Corps Combat Veteran of Vietnam. Bob retired from the Chillicothe Police Dept., where started May 4, 1970, and served as a Patrolman, Detective and Sergeant. In 1989, he became a Captain and was the only officer to score a perfect 100. He was Evening Watch Commander, the Commander of the Street Crime Unit, and Internal Affairs. He later became a Park Ranger with the ODNR and was assigned to Great Seal State Park.
He enjoyed the outdoors, water sports, flying, horseback riding and body building. He and Nina loved to travel. Bob said, "You only get one life, live it right!"
At his request, private inurnment will take place in Grandview Cemetery at the convenience of the family under the direction of Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Adena Health Foundation-Hospice Program, 9 S. Paint St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
