Robert L. Ball, 80, of Chillicothe, died 8:16 am, Friday, November 30, 2018, at his home, following a battle with cancer.
He was born December 12, 1937 in Pike Co. to the late Leslie and Virginia Diamond Ball. On December 20, 1958 he married Shelby J. Williamson Ball, who died February 25, 2009. Survivors include his daughter, Brenda (Gary) Sallade, of Chillicothe; three grandchildren, Scott (Tami) Sallade, Shelby Sallade and Ashley (Adam) McGuire; six great-grandchildren, Casey, Kayla, Naica, Cuay, Carson, and Scout; two sisters, Mildred Green and Sue (Dave) Leeth, both of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Abraham and Dewitt Moore.
Mr. Ball was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and served 19 months in Germany. He retired in 1993 from the VA Medical Center-Chillicothe occupational therapy department after 37 years service. He was a life member of AMVETS Post 4, where he served 5 terms as Post Commander. He also served as a State District Commander, State Commander's Aide, State Inspector General and Deputy State Inspector General for the AMVETS organization. Bob also served on the Ross County Veteran's Service Commission for 20 years.
In accordance with Bob's wishes, military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday in Grandview Cemetery, under the direction of the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. In keeping with his wishes, calling hours will not be observed. Memorial contributions may be made to AMVETS Post 4 in his honor.
