Robert "Red" Baer, 90, of Chillicothe, passed away early Saturday morning, October 8, 2016, at National Church Residences in Chillicothe, following an extended illness. He was born April 24, 1926, in Navoo, Ohio, to the late Robert Richard and Mary Ann (Davis) Baer. On January 25, 1948, he married Rachel Marie (Mustard) Baer, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Timothy F. (Helen) Baer, of Chillicothe; and Saundra M. Baer, of Murrells Inlet, SC; grandchildren, Shawn (Angie) Baer, of Circleville, Aaron (Ashley) Baer, of Chillicothe, Evan (Natalie) Baer, of Jackson, Nathan Baer, and Emily (Nathan) Lovett, both of Chillicothe; and Holly (Jason) Sosnowski, of MI; as well as numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by a son, Gary R. Baer, three sisters, Marilyn and Ruby Baer, and Norma Albrecht; and also his twin brother, Richard Baer. Red was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1944 to 1946. He worked for the WearEver Cookware factory in Chillicothe as a quality control specialist before retiring in 1990. After his retirement he went back to work for the company as security, and put in a total of 42 years. Red was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed being a part of the Senior Bowling League in Chillicothe, and loved watching Ohio State Football. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Haller Funeral Home, with Pastor Shaun Howard officiating. A military graveside service conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in St. Margaret's Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to National Church Residences of Chillicothe Hospice, 142 University Drive, Chillicothe; or to the First Assembly of God Church, 2580 Western Ave., Chillicothe.
