Rita Grabb

March 29, 1925 — March 9, 2010

Rita E. Grabb went peacefully to the Lord on March 9, 2010 at Heartland surrounded by her family. Rita was born on March 29, 1925 in Chillicothe to Pearl O. & Louise (Rieder) Porter. On May 18, 1948 she married John R. Grabb who survives. She was predeceased by her parents, by her brothers Richard & Robert Porter, and by her son Thaddeus George Grabb. In addition to her husband John, she is survived by her daughters Constance E. (John) Bolton, Janice E. (Don) Parker, Joan M. (Ralph) D'Antoni, Carol C. (Rodney) Uhrig and Christa S. (Dan) Snyder. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kimberly Parker, Katie (Mark) Oliver, Lisa (Ryan) Stowell, Stephen (Tara) D'Antoni, Alicia, Jill, Adam & Hannah Uhrig, Karl & Gretchen Snyder. Rita was a 1943 graduate of Chillicothe High School and attended Chillicothe Business Training School. Prior to her marriage she worked at the Powder Factory where artillery shells for the Navy were made. After the war, she worked in the payroll department at Mead Paper. Everyday the girls in her office waved to the handsome, young postman, John Grabb, as he walked his route. Rosie, one co-worker, knew John and Rita attended St Peter's Church and at her suggestion they met. The rest, as they say, is history. Rita had a lovely voice and took singing lessons from local vocal coach Eugene Weisenberger. She loved all sorts of music from opera to Broadway musicals to Tom Jones. Rita was a knowledgeable movie fan and would answer most movie trivia questions. She appreciated a range of films from the 1940's classic to "This is Spinal Tap". Her keen sense of humor as well as her love of music, movies, and baseball are things she passed on to her daughters. Rita's family would like to thank Heartland, especially the aides on Jericho Road for their loving care. It was very much appreciated and made a difficult time much easier. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 11th at 8:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Father Lawrence Hummer officiating. Burial will take place at St. Margaret's Cemetery. Calling hours will not be observed. Memorial contributions can be made to Pioneer Center School 11268 County Rd. 550 or St. Mary's St. Vincent de Paul Society, 61 S. Paint St., Chillicothe.
