Richard Witter

Richard "Six Gun" Witter, 87 of Bellevue, passed away peacefully on August 19th, 2020, at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe. Richard was born on June 20th, 1933, in Perry County, OH to the late Cletus and Margarete May (Murphy) Witter.    Richard retired from Whirlpool Corporation in 1995 working in assembly and later as an inspector after 28 years. Richard was a member of Bellevue VFW Post 1238. Richard is a Veteran of the Korean War, serving as a paratrooper in the United States Armed Forces for the 82nd Airborne, 1st Calvary division, receiving a Korean Service Medal Award with two bronze stars and the Army of Occupational Medal from Germany. He enjoyed watching westerns, traveling and spending quality time with his grandchildren.    Richard is survived by his daughter Susan (Brent Filipkowski) Greene of Chillicothe and son Steven (Shirley) Witter of Monroeville; siblings Shirley (Jack) Toney of Sun City Center, FL, Dorothy (William) Foreman of Shelby, OH; half-brothers Cletus Witter JR, and Rodger Witter; half-sister Darlene (Witter) Kreiger; three grandchildren, Melissa (Nate Hammond) Greene of Chillicothe, Brittany (Jim) Semon of Sandusky and Angie (Kyle) Horn of Bellevue; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his significant other Betty Jo Meador; siblings Paul (Izzy) Witter, Marjorie (Don) Lundell of Norwalk, Rosie (Bun) Martin of Sandusky, and Robert Witter of Sandusky; and two grandchildren, Aaron Charles Greene and Douglas Steven Witter.    Military graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Greenlawn Cemetery, Soldiers Square, under the direction of Haller Funeral Home and Crematory.    Those wishing to contribute to Richard's memory, donations may be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 and VAMC Hospice Services, 17273 State Route 104, Chillicothe, Ohio 45601
