Richard Smith

Richard L. Smith, 91, of Chillicothe, died 10:00 am Monday, November 27, 2017 at Signature Healthcare-Chillicothe.   He was born April 6, 1926 in Chillicothe to the late Roy P. and Ruth M. Payne Smith. On March 11, 1946 he married Marian E. Hatfield, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Vicki (Paul) Woods and Richard (Xiaofang Zhang) Smith, of Chillicothe; four grandchildren, Chad (Nadine) and Andrew (Krista) Dresbach and Tianwei (Hui) Wang, Robin Francis (Troy) Gardner; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson; two sisters, Shirley (Bill) Landman, Waverly and Lola (Paul) Schumann, Chillicothe; and three brothers, Roy (Phyliss) and Everett Smith, both of Chillicothe, and Walter (Jean) Smith, of Stoutsville. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Chaffin and Marian Smith, and two brothers, Robert and John Smith.   Mr. Smith was a US Air Force Veteran and a pilot. He retired from Mead Paper Company as a Maintenance Supervisor. He enjoyed serving in the Civil Air Patrol, riding motorcycles, golf and fishing. He was a member of Scioto Lodge 6 F& AM, Aladdin Shriners, the Ross Co. Shrine Club, the VFW Post 62, AMVETS Post 4, American Legion Post 62, and the Eagles Aerie 600.   Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery, on April 6, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Ross Co. Shrine Club, PO Box 371, Chillicothe, OH 45601, for the benefit of the Shriner's Hospitals.
