Richard Herbert Schafer, 61, of Chillicothe, formerly of Jamestown, passed away November 23, 2016, at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center, following a brief illness. He was born September 4, 1955, in Jamestown, OH, to the late Paul W. and Ruth E. (Wolfe) Schafer. On June 27, 1992, he married Joyce (Davis) Schafer, who survives. Also surviving are his step children, Chad, Adam, Jamie, and Jeannie Martin; his siblings, Phyllis Fulcher, and Roger Schafer, both of Jamestown; two nephews, Ron and Bob Fulcher; an aunt, Ruth Wolfe; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Malta Joy Schafer, a nephew, William Roger Schafer, and a niece, Teresa Joy Schafer. Richard was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army. He worked as a truck driver for many years before his illness prevented him. He was a member of the Sunrush Church of Christ, a lifetime member of the NRA, and enjoyed going hunting and fishing. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Sunrush Church of Christ, with evangelist James Rankhorn, officiating. Burial will follow in Browns Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00am until the time of the service Thursday.
