Richard Montgomery

Rev. Richard Montgomery, 81, died at 1:34pm September 15, 2016, at the Ross Heart Hospital at Ohio State. He was born December 26, 1934, in Ross Co., to the late Lundy and Ida Mae (Jenkins) Montgomery. On July 25, 2010, he married the former Patricia (Forsha) Nelson, who survives. Also surviving are his daughters Jacie and April Montgomery, both of Columbus; step-children: Celeste Wright, of Dayton, Wilby Nelson and Alex Nelson, both of Chillicothe; grandchildren: Britney, Jaymee and Brandi, all of Columbus; step-grandchildren: Jordan Nelson, Columbus, Hannah (Gage) Taylor, Colorado Springs, CO, Natalie Nelson, Chillicothe, and Autumn Wright, Dayton; 3 great-grandchildren; a special step-great-granddaughter Brynnleigh; a brother Edward (Ruth) Montgomery; sisters: Lucille (Carl) Carroll, Thelma Johnson, Christine Chaney, Irene Price, all of Chillicothe, and Jean (Tom) Francis, of Texas. He was predeceased by his former wife, Ruth F. Montgomery; brothers Hasadore and Everett "Bud" Montgomery; and sisters: Ivia Rogers, Belva Hamilton, Elva Lewis, and Rosa Fry. Richard was a graduate of the Ohio State School of the Blind in 1955. He then earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Welfare from the Ohio St. University in 1972. He was ordained in May of 1996 in the Assembly of God Church. He worked as a chaplain for the State of Ohio penal system. He and his late wife Ruth traveled as evangelists for the Assembly of God for 15 years. He was an avid Reds and Buckeye fan. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday at the Haller Funeral Home with Pastor Shaun Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 10:30am until 12:30pm at Haller Funeral Home.
