It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Michael “Mike” Ivey, 88 on February 12, 2026. Mike was born on August 8, 1937 in Perry, Iowa to Roscoe and Kathleen Ivey. In 1958 he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Phyllis. Together they built a beautiful life and raised four children, who were his pride and joy. Mike never missed an opportunity to share how proud he was of his kids and their accomplishments. His love for them, as well his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was unwavering. Family was always his number one priority and even in his final days his eyes would light up as he spoke of them.
In addition to being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, Mike had a long and successful career in Perry. Over the years he held positions with Northern Natural Gas, Osmundson Manufacturing Co. and Wiese Corporation and was also the proud owner of Ivey’s Perry Paint and Glass. He was a hard working businessman who dedicated himself not only to the success of his ventures but also building lasting friendships along the way.
Mike had a spirited personality, a sharp wit and a zest for life and he treasured his close friends. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening, boating and hunting as well as seeing the world. His grandchildren would often listen in awe as he shared stories and memorabilia of his travels, an African safari being amongst their favorites!
Mike leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and dedication to his family. While we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and are confident that he is at peace in heaven, watching over those he cherished most.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Phyllis Ivey, his children: Michelle (Barry) Crabtree, Stephen (Lori) Ivey, Dr. Troy (Grace) Ivey and Angela Ivey; grandchildren: Aja (Ryan) George, Brittney (Todd) Henry, Kylon (Tesa) Crabtree, Ariel Wooten, Hailey Ivey (Dmitri Lebedyev), Hunter Ivey, Maxwell Ivey, Catie Ivey, Michael Ivey, Dr. Robert (Mary Rose) Ivey, Emily (Dr. Eric) Pacheco and Tre Ivey and great-grandchildren: Dawson, Keagan, Korbin, Bryden, Oaklynn, Jett, Ivey, Bloom, Lewi and Augie.
