There are people given as gifts to us in this life. Richard "Dick" Lee Hinty was one of those who was a gift to many. Dick suddenly passed from this life at his home on April 15, 2026. 

Dick was born on August 29, 1949, to his loving parents, Raymond F. and Margaret Ann Hinty, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy (Davis) Hinty. Together they loved and enjoyed Dick's three children from his first marriage, Matthew (Laura) Hinty, Todd Hinty, and Teresa Hinty. Dick and Nancy were later blessed with a loving daughter, Katherine (Seamus) Hinty Brennan, who survives. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, Taylor Hinty, Monica (Andrew) Ford, Matthew Hinty, Daniel Hinty, Mishell Hinty, Tyler Hinty, Claire Brennan, Poppy Brennan, Beatrice Brennan, and 1 great-grandchild, Charlotte Hinty. 

He is also survived by three brothers, Robert (Lynne) Hinty, Dennis (Julie) Hinty, Jerry (Kim) Hinty, and two loving sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Cindy Thomas, Sally Kleon, and Tye (Kris) Davis, and many nieces and nephews. 

Dick was drafted to the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam Wat from July 1970 - January 1972. Upon return, he attended Ohio University where he earned a bachelor's and master's degree in physical education. He used these degrees to teach and guide children for over thirty years in the classroom, gym and playing fields as he coached softball, tennis, volleyball and basketball. Dick was instrumental in developing the first women's basketball teams at Ohio University Chillicothe, where he coached winning conference teams. After coaching, Dick found his niche as Athletic Director, first at Ohio University Chillicothe and later for Chillicothe Middle School. 

In retirement, Dick could be found spending time with family and friends, watching sporting events, spoiling his granddaughters, and traveling with Nancy. 

Above all, Dick will be remembered for is presence in the lives he those who loved him-his dedication as a father, his pride as a grandfather, and the many ways he showed up for his family, his friends and his community. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who knew him. 

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Haller Funeral Home in Chillicothe, Ohio from  4:00pm to 7:00pm. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Springbank Cemetery  at 11:00am, near Chillicothe, Ohio.
