Richard Dudash

Richard George Dudash, 80, of Chillicothe, Ohio, formerly of Avon Lake, Ohio, died on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born July 12, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Suzanne (Labay) and Paul J. Dudash. He married Josephine Rivera in Austin, Texas, on April 14, 1956. He is survived by his wife; children Paul P. Dudash of Houston, Texas; Albert (Sonia) J. Dudash of Elyria, Ohio; Diana L. Dudash of Springfield, Virginia; Richard (Jennifer) G. Dudash, Jr., of Leonardtown, Maryland; Patricia (David) D. Laird of Oak Ridge, North Carolina; Elizabeth (Kent) A. Leighton of Martinsville, Indiana; and James (Stella) A. Dudash of Findlay, Ohio; grandchildren Nathan and Jessica Shannon; Alejandra and Meredith McCord; Paul Dudash; Lucy, Marcie, and Peter Laird; and Michael Dudash; and brother Paul Dudash. His parents, brothers Norman Dudash and Alan Dudash, and daughter Debra Shannon preceded him in death. He was a graduate of John Marshall High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a jet mechanic in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1952 to 1962. After leaving the Air Force he worked as an aerospace mechanic at NASA's Lewis Research Center in Brook Park, Ohio, retiring in 1988. Richard and his family were long-time residents of Avon Lake, Ohio. After retirement he and his wife lived for a short time in Tusculum, Tennessee, before moving to Chillicothe in 1999. Richard was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He was an avid reader who also loved to share stories and jokes with his many friends and family members. He was a gifted mechanic and carpenter who could repair or build anything he set his mind to. He and Josie also enjoyed traveling. Visitation will be Sunday, January 13, from 3 to 6 P.M. at Haller Funeral Home, in Chillicothe, where a wake service will be held at 6pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 14, at 10 A.M. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 122 Church St., Chillicothe, Rev. William Hahn, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Relief Services, 228 W. Lexington St., Baltimore, MD 21201-3443, or online at crs.org.
