It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Richard E. Childers Sr. or known as Butch to those close to him. Butch left us on the 9th of September, 2026 leaving a void that can be never filled. He was born on December 23, 1946 to the late Wilbur and Frances Childers. On May 30, 1991, he married Patti (White) Childers, who survives.
Also surviving is son, Richard Childers Jr.; step-daughters, Nayla Granato and Stephanie Sweetman; grandchildren, Ashley Childers, Emily Fuller, Kenzie Condee, Cayce Granato, Ben Granato, Lainey Noltemeyer; great-grandchildren, Samuel Fuller and Aurora Condee; and sisters, Sherry Childers and Theresa Bacon.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from February 1965 to February 1971. The skills he acquired in the Navy lead to a career at Cummins Bridgeway Power where he worked for 32 years, retiring in April 2011. He was a member of Waxhaw Baptist Church, American Legion Post #0208 and the Waxhaw Baptist Church Veterans Coffee House in Waxhaw, North Carolina.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at the Haller Funeral Home at 11:00am with burial to follow in Grandview.
