Richard Bateson

Richard A. Bateson, 89, of Chillicothe, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 3, 2024 at Westmoreland Place, following a brief illness.
He was born April 2, 1935, in Chillicothe, son of the late Chalmer E. and Helen P. (Garrison) Bateson. On October 8, 1967, he married his beloved wife, Anna Hader Graves, who preceded him in death on October 10, 2022.
Surviving are their children, Rebecca (Mark) Barge and Michele Blaum; grandchildren, Matthew Majusick, Thomas Majusick, and Lauren (Randall Jr.) Hieneman; great-grandchildren, Randall "Trey" Heineman III, and Dahlia Hieneman; a sister, Pamela Kaltenbach; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard A. Bateson, Jr.; son-in-law, Larry Blaum; as well as his sister and brothers-in-law, Mary (Russ) Heraldson, and William Kaltenbach.
Richard worked for the Trinity United Methodist Church in Chillicothe for many years as the custodian, and retired in 1999. He attended the First Church of God in Chillicothe and loved spending time with his family.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at the Haller Funeral Home with Pastor Ben Liston officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 11:00am until the time of the service.
