Rex D. Schumaker, 76, of Chillicothe, died December 24, 2022, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born May 21, 1946, in Chillicothe, to the late Harold J. and Ruth B. (Seiler) Schumaker. On January 18, 1969, he married the former Helen M. Newton, who survives. In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by his daughter Cynthia Schumaker, of Chillicothe; his son and daughter-in-law Russell (Margaret) Schumaker, of Glen Ellyn, IL; grandchildren Benjamin and Madalyn Schumaker; his brothers Neal, Gary and Eric (Rhonda) Schumaker; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Harold, Jr. and Donald; and his sister Cheryl. Rex was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, Class of 1964. He served his country in the US Army from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam War. Rex was a jack-of-all-trades being an electrician, contractor and owner-operator of the former Chillicothe Decorating Center. He was a member of the Ross County Conservation League, the VFW, Post 108, and the American Legion, Post 757. Rex enjoyed renovating old homes, woodworking, gardening, watching football, and spending time with his family. He was always there to lend a helping hand to friends and strangers alike. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-6pm at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. Military graveside services will be held at 11:00am Friday in Grandview Cemetery.
