Rex Edwin LaGard, 62, of Chillicothe, passed away early Saturday morning, November 12, 2022 at his home, following a courageous 2-year battle with brain cancer.

He was born October 1, 1960, in Chillicothe, son of the late Leonard "Bud" Ross and Garnet Wilma Jean (Brown) LaGard. On June 3, 1989, he married the love of his life, Diedra "DeDe" (Mountjoy) LaGard, who survives.

Also surviving is his beloved son, Benjamin Ross (fiancé Madison) LaGard; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, David (Kathi) Mountjoy; two sisters-in-law, Debbie Radekin and Michelle Mountjoy; two nieces, Sarah (Austin) Hill, and Kayla Radekin; a nephew, Luther Mountjoy; two great-nephews, Kayden and Ronin; his aunt, Jesse Brown; cousins, Mike (Carol) Ekers, Tiffany Ekers, Toby (Michelle) Ekers, John (Diane) Hearne, Jack Brown, Tom (Carla) Brown, and Kayla (Austin) Treneff; and extended family, Chad, Tara, Broc, Scotlyn, Huc, and the late Hayden Jordan; lifelong best friend, Dennis Greenwalt; and close friends, Tisha Scott, Lew and Laura Vollmar, and their family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jenna Catherine LaGard, and his brother-in-law, Luke Mountjoy.

Rex was a graduate of Unioto High School, class of 1979. He went on to work for the Mead Paper Company before retiring after 36 years of employment. In keeping with his hard-working nature, he went back to work, beginning a new career with G & J Paving. Rex was a member of the Acts Believe Church in Bainbridge. He was a huge fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, NASCAR, and enjoyed supporting the Zane Trace Athletic Boosters. However, nothing was more important in his life than family. Rex always made sure that his family was well taken care of and comfortable above all else. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed providing for the ones he loved so dearly.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at the Haller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may join the family for visitation from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
