Rebecca Jean (Cottrill) Hines, 73, died peacefully Nov. 10, 2021, at Adena Regional Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends, following an extended illness.
She was born October 20, 1948, in Chillicothe, to Kenneth Robert Cottrill and Jean (Ortman) Cottrill. In February 1995 she married her best friend and love of her life, Terry Hines, who survives. Becky is also survived by daughter Stacey King Gordon (Andrew) of Alameda, Calif.; daughter Sara King (Amy) of Chillicothe; step-daughter Amy Piasecki (Robert) of Keller, Texas; and step-daughter Tara Gerstmeyer (Chad) of Owasso, Okla. She's additionally survived by her grandchildren, who she loved dearly: Ashley King, Layla King, Madeleine Gordon, Paige Eddings, and Xavier Zelis. She also leaves a brother, Dan Cottrill (Lucy) of Hardeeville, S.C., and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and very dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Jeffrey Cottrill, and a beloved uncle, John Ortman.
Becky was a 1966 graduate of Unioto High School. She worked for many years for the Chillicothe Telephone Company and Horizon PCS, starting as a switchboard operator upon high school graduation and holding positions in administration, marketing, and operations. She also worked at Glatfelter and Adena Hospital before retirement.
Always active in her community, Becky took on many responsibilities as a young mom when her kids were in school—from Brownie troop leader to Worthington Elementary PTA and room mother. She was active in boosters for the Babe Ruth Little League organization, which is how she met her husband, Terry. After retirement, Becky became involved in Chillicothe Evening Lions and Lioness Clubs, serving as Lioness president and Lions treasurer. She was also involved in Kiwanis and volunteered at the Hope Clinic and for the Homeland Credit Union Cash Committee.
Becky loved all holidays, especially Christmas. She enjoyed visiting the beach, playing slots at the casino, gardening, reading, and spending time with family.
The family extends deep gratitude to the Adena Hospice team who lovingly cared for and supported Becky and our family during her last months: Emily Moore, Maggie Dunlap, Brandy Ragland, Cameron Caseman, and the rest of the care team. We also sincerely thank the doctors and nurses of 2A at Adena Regional Hospital who provided Becky with compassionate care.
