Richard Thomas "Tom" Berling, 63, of Chillicothe, died at 6:55am Monday August 10, 2009, in Traditions of Chillicothe. He was born August 6, 1946, in Cincinnati, OH to the late Ralph Raymond and Martha Louise Davidson Berling. Tom is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Dr. Donald L. and Marlene Berling, of Chillicothe; nieces and nephews Deborah J. (Brent) Poling; Dr. Donald P. (Christine) Berling; David W. (Ana) Berling; Barbara A. (Mark) Lovensheimer; Douglas A. (Nikole) Berling; Susan E. (Christopher) Higley; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews including a special great-niece Megan Poling and special niece Debbie Poling; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Tom was employed at First Capital Enterprises from 1980 until 2008. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He enjoyed his library of American History, Indian History and Gettysburg. Tom also enjoyed traveling and especially loved his trips to New York and Washington D.C. Tom participated in the Special Olympics where he won a Gold Medal in diving in 1971. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Thursday, August 13, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 122 Church St., Rev. William Hahn, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Portsmouth, OH. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8pm at Haller Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 8:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to either: First Capital Enterprises, 167 W. Main St., Chillicothe; or Nation Church Residences Foundation of Chillicothe, 142 University Dr., Chillicothe.
