Phyllis Jean Newkirk, 84, of Kingston, passed away on Thursday evening, March 16, 2023 at National Church Residences in Chillicothe, following an extended illness.
She was born on February 18, 1939, in Adams County, daughter of the late James and Opal (Wickerham) Vincent. On March 14, 1959, she married her beloved husband, Clarence Newkirk, who preceded her in death on March 3, 2012.
Surviving are three children, Gregory A. (Julia) Newkirk, William R. Newkirk, and Wilma A. (Jeff) Clyne; grandchildren, Zachary, Megan (Derek), Brandon (Brittany), Amber, Amber M. (David), Jeff II (Meagen), Tanner J. (Shania), Harley M. (Jacob), Carlyn C. (Corey), Shannon, Tony, Jason, Amiee (Miguel), Lindsay, Kimberly (Desi), Olivia (Josh), Brittany (Justin), Ashley (Rickey II), Joshua (Sarah), Cory (Kayla), Jason, and Autumn (Ryan); great-grandchildren; Kennedy, Weston, Peyton, Acaida, Ezekiel, Ashley, Torrey, Lexie, Jacelyn S., Hunter M., Gunner D., Oakley, Zane (due April 2), Booker A., Bexley K.A., Malachi A.D., Gustavo, Sydnee, Ana, Vincent, Madison, Prestyn, Zackary, Tyler, Ashtyn, Ella, Kingston, Justus, Xyla, Iachlann, Bhric, Carlee, Nevaeh, Janessa, Ashleigh, Levi, Ricky III, Harper, and Shyla; daughter-in-law, Patty Newkirk; and a special sister-in-law with whom she was especially close, Wanda. In addition to her parents and husband Clarence, she was preceded in death by her children, Deborah Grooms, James E. Newkirk, Leonard P. Newkirk, Ronald W. Newkirk, and Rosemary J. Newkirk; and her siblings, Bill, Ronnie, Bud, Gary, Richard, George, Wilma, Ruth Ann, Gracie, and Brenda.
Phyllis was a proud homemaker who loved spending time with her family. Her greatest joys in life were raising her children, spending time with her grandchildren, and eventually great-grandchildren! In her free time, she also enjoyed a good game of bingo and playing the lottery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to National Church Residences Hospice for all of their love and care throughout her illness.
A funeral service will be held at 5:00pm on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at the Haller Funeral Home, with Pastor Aaron Hines officiating. Friends may join the family for visitation from 3:00pm until the time of the service.
