Peter Ellsworth Bennett, beloved husband, dad, papa, brother, and friend, passed into his Lord and Savior's arms on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. He was 75 years old. Born in Chillicothe on Wednesday, May 16, 1951, to Peter O. and Mary E. Bennett. Peter lived a life rich in love, commitment, and service to his community.
On July 20, 1981, Peter married the love of his life, Jennifer "Jenny" (Bost) Bennett, who survives, and together they built a loving family and an enduring partnership that spanned nearly 45 years. Peter was a dedicated and loving husband and father. He is also survived by two children; Barbara (Brian) Young and Joe (Mindy) Bennett. He was also a doting grandfather to Paige Young, Jacob Bennett, and MaKayla Sherwood. His family was his pride and joy.
Peter was a loving brother to Betty Jo Cook and Jeb (Terri) Bennett, a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Cheryl Brown, and a cherished friend to John and Clarissa Black and longtime friend to Karen and Allen McDowell. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Mark Bennett, with whom he shared a close bond.
Peter spent his career at Kenworth, retiring as a Test Mechanic. He was known for his dedication and skill. In addition to his professional life, Peter was deeply committed to his community. In his younger years, he volunteered as a firefighter, embodying the spirit of service that was a core part of his character. He was an active member of the Kenworth Emergency Response Team, and a proud member of the Republican Party.
A man of deep convictions and gentle kindness, Peter was passionately dedicated to his children and grandchildren. To them, he was not just a great dad and papa, but also a steadfast source of wisdom and support. When Peter was 15, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and spent the rest of his life serving at many churches, including Lighthouse Baptist Church since 2014.
Peter's legacy of love, service, and dedication to family and community will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Ryan Bevan officiating, followed by burial at Grandview Cemetery.
