Margaret "Peggy" Netta (Ries) Cory of Chillicothe, Ohio passed from this world on October 5, 2025. She was born in Chillicothe on April 8, 1953, to the late Dr. William Henry Ries and the late Virginia Jean (Wilson) Ries. She attended Unioto schools, graduating in 1971. Shortly thereafter, she lived for several years in Colorado Springs, where she learned to play folk guitar and ski. She was also a closeted short-story writer and poet, who enjoyed reading Robert Frost and watching murder mysteries.
Upon returning to Ohio in her twenties, she worked in the finance sector and later went on to receive her Paralegal Certificate, which further established her career. She retired as a loan officer from Ohio Central Credit Union, where her attention to detail and strong work ethic helped her excel. She also became one of the company's first mostly-remote employees when the internet became more popular in the early 1990s. Her children are still haunted by the dial-up tones.
She was married for forty years to Robert "Bob" Cory, Jr., with whom she is now reunited. When they were dating, Bob noticed that Peggy couldn't see the sunsets from her apartment, so he would call her to describe them from his view near the Huntington Hills. While she was stubborn as could be, his persistence eventually paid off.
She was as witty and fun-loving as she was stubborn, often teasing loved ones about their football picks or other issues. In addition to her family and Denver Broncos football, she also loved pale yellow roses, the smell of lilacs, anything chocolate, watching the neighborhood deer and birds wherever she lived, the warmth of spring after a long winter, and her bottle of Clairol.
To her family, she was a dedicated and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived and will be dearly missed by sisters Jeanne Neader and Mega (Calvin) Cutler, both of Chillicothe; daughters, Jessica Cory (John McHone) of Millers Creek, NC and Caroline Cory of Cincinnati, along with stepdaughter Sara Cory of Chillicothe; grandchildren Judah McHone, Sid Cory, and Zoey Jones. She also cherished special lifelong friendships with Kathy May of Chillicothe and Teri (Bill) Hudson of Delaware, OH.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 11 at 2 PM at Grandview Cemetery with Pastor Nick Bevan officiating.
