Isaac Peavy "Pete" Schachne, 105, of Chillicothe, died Monday, July 26, 2010, in his home. He was born February 8, 1905, in Chillicothe to the late Richard and Rose Peavy Schachne. In June 1932, he married the former Margaret Elizabeth "Lib" Dimity, who preceded him in death June 12, 1963. He was also predeceased by his brothers Richard and Maurice Schachne. Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law Carolyn (Theodore) Riky, of Whitestone, NY; and Martha (Larry) Laughon, of Midlothian, VA; three grandchildren: Jennifer (Paul) Riky Perugini, NY; Meg (Michael) Laughon Sherin, NC; and Matthew Laughon, VA; five great-grandchildren Samantha and Joseph Perugini, NY; Tyler, Bennett and Riley Sherin, NC; nieces Anne (Lou) Knouse; Sarah (Doug) Smith, FL; Marianne (Ross) Flint; Sally (Mike) Turner, Rochester, NY; nephews Fred, Tom and James Herrnstein, Chillicothe; Dennis Dimity, FL; and Sherman Wagenseller, CA. Pete graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1923 and Columbia University, School of Economics, in 1928. He and his brothers owned and managed the family department store, M. Schachne & Sons, a Chillicothe landmark, from 1887 until 1979. He was active in Chillicothe civic affairs: on the board of Junior Chamber of Commerce, on the board of the Salvation Army, a member of Kiwanis, the Elks Lodge No. 52 and Charter Member of the Chillicothe Country Club. During World War II, Mr. Schachne was Chairman of the Board in the distribution of Ration Stamps in Ross County. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, July 29, in the Haller Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-7pm at Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, 171 E. Fourth St.; the American Red Cross, 115 W. Main St.; or Adena Hospice, 111 W. Water St.
