Pauline Ann Doyle Spriggs, 89, of Chillicothe, OH passed away at Adena Regional Medical Center on Thursday, January 7, 2021. Pauline was born on October 16, 1931 in Portsmouth, OH to Paul and Mary Luella (Brown) Doyle. Pauline graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in Portsmouth in 1949. Pauline then pursued her dream of becoming a nurse and graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1952. Pauline furthered her education by earning a Master's degree in Counseling from Ohio University. Pauline married Friend "Nick" Butt in 1953. They had six children: Susan (Tom) Porter, James, Laura, Teresa, Joe (Julie) and John Doyle. Pauline married David Spriggs in 1994. David passed away in 1995. Surviving Pauline are her six children; her grandchildren - Shad (Amy) Park, Doug (Emily) Porter, Michaela, Savannah, and Jorja; and her great grandchild, William Park. Also surviving are her brother Tim (Susie) Doyle, her sister Maureen (Mike) Coburn, and sister-in-law Janet Doyle. Her surviving nieces and nephews loved to call her "Aunt Polly". Pauline is preceded in death by her brother Mike Doyle and her grandson James "Bryant" Butt. Pauline leaves behind many close friends and her 12 Step / Lighthouse community. Pauline, being a nurturing and caring mother to her family, pursued a career in Nursing to do the same for others. For over 60 years she cared for her patients as she would her family. She was present for the birth of many of her children's childhood best friends. Later in life and up until she was 80 years old, Pauline taught Nursing at Pickaway-Ross Vocational school, instilling her passion of helping others within her students. Along with nurturing for her patients, Pauline loved to spend time in her garden. Her ability to cultivate and care for her beautiful flowers lasted her lifetime. Her hostas and lilies of the valley can still be found in her family and friends garden's today. Pauline's faith in God led her to navigate life with a positive attitude and see the good in every person she met. She was a member of St Peter's Catholic Church where she was a lecturer for many years. Later in her life she was often escorted to the podium by her "son", Joe Zupi, for her readings when she was unable to walk the path alone. There was never an unfamiliar face; if there was, she made it her priority to befriend them. She considered her community, her family, and her vivacious personality made it so she could easily get to know everyone in it. In the words of her favorite Saint, Francis of Assisi, "Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith." With all of her friends (new or old), Pauline loved a great party. Her sharp dancing skills and singing (though not the greatest) lit up every room she walked into. Her favorite time of the year to celebrate and throw a party was Christmas because she was able to spend it with her family. Her decorations and recipes brought love and joy to her six children and grandchildren, making each holiday season so special. In the end, Pauline was surrounded by Nurses and Doctors who cared for her like she taught her students; with love, comfort, and compassion. Pauline's family is forever grateful for the care she received at Adena. Due to the COVID-19 virus, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held. Friends may attend the public Graveside Service at St. Margaret's Cemetery, 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled later this year.
