Paul Michael "Mick" Reed, 77 of Chillicothe, lovingly known as "Mickster" to his friends, passed away peacefully at home on December 22, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer.
He was born on January 24, 1947, in Huntington, West Virginia to the late Paul Arthur and Anna Lee (Thomas) Reed.
He graduated from South Point High School where he met and married the love of his life, Geraldine "Jeri" (Duty), who survives. Also surviving are daughters Tammy Davis and Lori Hyder (Josh); grandchildren: Sarah Davis (George "Chas" Manning), Lillian Thomakos (Dillon), Nathanial Hyder, and Allison "Alli" Hyder; great-grandchildren: Luna, Charlie "Chuck," and Oliver; his brother Richard Reed (Carolyn), brother-in-law Ron Duty (Janie). He is predeceased by his son Michael A. Reed and his brother, Lindsey Thomas (Tommy) Reed.
Mick was a kind, curious, and resourceful man who never met a stranger and was loved by all. He grew up with a love for learning, building, and serving others. A proud member of the Teamsters Union, he retired after thirty years of service as an OTR driver for Roadway Express and received the Presidential award for Safety, driving over 3 million miles without any incidents.
In retirement, Mick stayed active teaching student drivers through AAA and certifying bus drivers, always greeting everyone with his trademark smile. An avid golfer, he was an inspiration both on and off the course. His passion extended beyond his game, coaching his grandkids and students for many years at Zane Trace Jr. High School. Away from the fairway, he could often be found tinkering in his workshop— repairing and building golf clubs, fixing gadgets, and embracing his love of technology.
Mick was a man of faith who loved God and people. As a proud Freemason, Mick exemplified the values of charity, integrity, and brotherhood in everything he did. His storytelling and warmth always left a lasting impression. He found peace and relaxation in all things nature as a member of the Conservation League and served for years as a Boy Scout leader and Cub Master. He gave generously of his time, volunteering at Adena Regional Medical Center and Adena Cancer Center, brightening lives with his humor and kindness. He truly never met a stranger. His unique charm and ability to connect with others left everyone smiling.
Mick often handed out $2 bills and reminded others to, "Make it a great day." His spirit and joy for life will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank everyone for all their prayers and loving support, and special thanks to Adena Hospice and Haller Funeral Home for their compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the First Wesleyan Church, 89 S. Mulberry St. A private inurnment will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made in his honor to Adena Hospice, First Wesleyan Church, St. Peter's Catholic Church, or supporting all cancer research.
