Paul E. Pontious, 63, of Chillicothe, passed away in his home with his family at 2:16am Saturday, June 20, 2009, following an extended illness. He was born May 6, 1946, in Ross Co. to the late Orval D. and Garnet E. Bower Pontious. On April 24, 1976, he married the former Carol Ann Bell, who survives. Also surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law Leslie A. (Jeffrey) Kalmbach, of Belmont NC; Jennifer L. (John) Clark, Chillicothe; grandchildren: Catie and Jonathan Kalmbach; and Samantha Clark; a sister Patricia A. Smith, Tyler, TX; brother Gary Orval Pontious, Chillicothe; and his twin brother Dennis A. Pontious, La Grange, GA; his father-in-law and mother-in-law William A. and Bert E. Bell, Chillicothe; sisters-in-law Nancy (Jeff) Sanford, Chillicothe; Karen (Jim) Brown, Circleville; Janet (Mike) Block, Black Lick, OH; brothers-in-law William J. Bell; Tim (Tonya) Bell; and Mike (Shawna) Bell, all of Chillicothe; a host of nieces and nephews; and many special friends. He was predeceased by a brother Ronald V. Pontious. Paul retired from Ashland Chemical Co. following 25 years of service where he worked as a Technical Service Representative for composites and research and development. He also worked at the former Wear-Ever Aluminum. He was a graduate of Centralia High School, Class of 1964. Paul served his country during the Vietnam War as an Electrician Mate, Third Class on the USS Norris. Paul was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Circleville, where he served as an Usher and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Fr. John S. Hannan Knights of Columbus, Council 5297, Circleville; the American Legion, Post 291 Kingston; and the American Chemical Society. He enjoyed NASCAR, Ohio State Football and golf. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am Wednesday, June 24, at St. Jospeh Catholic Church, 134 W. Mound St., Circleville, Fr. Jeff Conning, Celebrant. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard will be held at the convenience of the family in Hallsville Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 1-3pm and 5-8pm at St. Joseph Church, where a wake service will be held at 8:00pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of the following: St. Joseph School Building Fund, 134 W. Mound St., Circleville, OH 43113; Adena Hospice, 111 W. Water St., Chillicothe; or the American Cancer Society.
