Paul Edgar Fastie, 71, of Chillicothe, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the Cincinnati VA Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born on August 27, 1946, to the late Edgar Howard and Ruth Ott (Seidel) Fastie. He is survived by his sister, Jane (Dr. John) Graf; his four nieces, Joan (David) McConahy, Julie Graf, Janice (George) Williams, and Jill (Chad) Ferguson; four great-nieces; and four great-nephews. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a great-nephew. Paul joined the United States Coast Guard on June 24, 1968 and served honorably before being discharged on July 20, 1972. During this time, he also spent 10 months in the U.S. Navy, fighting in the Vietnam War. Paul operated as part of the USCG Squadron 3, the U.S. Navy Task Force 115 Coastal Surveillance Forces, and the Destroyer Division 12, Vietnam, where he received many awards including the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, Navy Meritorious Unit Citation, USCG good conduct medal, National Defense Service Medal, multiple bronze stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, and Republic of Vietnam Medal. Paul was a graduate of the Washington College in Chestertown Maryland, having received his Bachelors Degree in Economics. He went on to work in the banking industry, and later in insurance sales. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the DAV. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking and tinkering around fixing things. A prayer service for family and friends will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Loudon Park Cemetery, 3620 Wilkins Ave, Baltimore, MD., with Military Graveside honors to follow.
