Owen D. "Uncle" Knox, 89, of Chillicothe, died at 11:30am Tuesday, May 19, 2009, in Heartland of Chillicothe. He was born September 11, 1919, in Chillicothe to the late George Thomas and Erma Loretta Knapp Knox. Surviving are his son Daniel R. Knox, Pensacola, FL; son and daughter-in-law Richard K. (Lynn) Knox, Belfair, WA; daughter and son-in-law Sheila (Wayne) Decker, Quilcene, WA; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters Carol Lemaster, Chillicothe; Ruth (Bob) Compton, Columbus; and a brother Marvin Knox, Beaufort, NC; a sister-in-law Beverly Knox; and several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces Yvonne Tennant and Judy Reese. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Marian Ewing Knox; granddaughter Susan Decker; brothers Donald, Bernard, Monte and Charles Thomas Knox; and sisters Marceline Miller and Esther Nelson. Owen served his country as a firefighter in the US Navy serving tours in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked most of his life as a firefighter in various capacities including the Chillicothe Fire Department between wars, the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Fire Hazard School, and finally retiring as a Captain from the Guam Navy Fire Dept. in 1974. He also worked for Boeing Aircraft as a fire inspector from 2002 until 2003. He was a member of the 154th Navy Seabee (C.B.); Life member of the Navy Seabee Veterans of America; the American Legion, Post 62; and the Island X-13 Seabees in Pensacola, FL. Funeral services will be held at 5:00pm Tuesday in the Haller Funeral Home with Pastor Brent Rolsten officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted in the Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood, WA, at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 3:00pm to 5:00pm Tuesday at Haller Funeral Home.
