Oliver W. Cousins, Jr., 77, of Chillicothe, died 12:46 am, December 28, 2018 at the VAMC-Chillicothe, following an extended illness.
He was born November 30, 1941 in Chillicothe to the late Oliver W. and Alberta C. Austin Cousins. On March 27, 1970 he married Betty Jean Hatfield Ragland, who survives. Also surviving are his children by his first marriage to Judith Richardson Cousins, Harry Cousins (deceased), Andrea and Oliver Cousins III; two children by his marriage to Betty, Oliver (Samantha) Cousins and John Ragland Jr, all of Chillicothe; his grandchildren, Anthony "AJ" and Summer, Jordan (Ashley), Kambree, Joshua, Kylie, Jensyn, Olivia, Kyle (Mindy), Kenny, Aaron, Kiana, Aiden and Delaney; great-grandchildren, Caiden, Bryce, Austin, Christopher, Alayia, Carter and Noah; a sister, Donna Hammond, Columbus; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Wimbley, Linda Hatfield, Nancy (Rudy) Albrighton; brothers-in-law, Glenn Hatfield, Scott Netter and Richard Austin; a special nephew, Mike Steed. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Cory.
Mr. Cousins retired from Chilpaco after 38 years service, and was a US Marine. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church, a 50 year member and Past Master of Ionic Masonic Lodge 6, Right Worship District Grand Deputy Prince Hall Grand Lodge, St. Elizabeth Chapter 6 Order of the Eastern Star, Taylor Commandery 6, Knights Templar 6, AASR 21, Easton Consistory 26, and Alla Baba Temple 53, past-president of the Ross County Labor Council, past-president Local 988, and coach of "Ollie's Dollys" softball team, and little league football. He volunteered with the American Red Cross and served during disasters, including Hurricane Katrina.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm Saturday at Zion Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. J. Troy Gray officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service at the church.
