Oakley R. Nichols, 58, of Londonderry, died 8:16 pm, Friday, May 13, 2011, at Twin Maples Nursing Home, McArthur, following a brief illness. He was born May 25, 1952 in McArthur, OH to the late George T. and Evelyn L. Pratt Nichols. On June 15, 1973 he married the former Rebecca S. McCollister, who survives. Also surviving is a son, Christopher (Holly Stonerock) Nichols, of Chillicothe; 6 grandchildren, Katlyn and Dakota Nichols, Kelsie Shaffer, Erika, Emily and Christopher Jace Oakley Nichols; 3 brothers, Harold Nichols, of Chillicothe, Leland (Dorothy) Nichols, of Londonderry, and Danny (Lisa) Nichols, of Columbus; a sister, Susan (Victor) Knight, of Londonderry; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Nathan and a daughter, Jillian. Mr. Nichols was a US Army Vietnam War veteran. He was an auto mechanic and retired from the City of Chillicothe Wastewater Department. He enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, fishing, and watching NASCAR races. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Haller Funeral Home. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call 5-8 pm Tuesday at Haller's.
