Norma Raney

October 15, 1931 — February 11, 2024

Norma Jean (Mischal) Raney, age 92, transitioned from this earth to her Heavenly home on Sunday morning, February 11, 2024.

Norma was predeceased by her parents Gurney and Mary (Smith) Mischal, husband Phil Raney, daughter Michele (Raney) Walton, daughter in law Angie (Beish) Raney, and all of her Mischal brothers and sisters and Raney brothers and sisters in law.

She is survived by her sons Phil (Maria) Raney, Kevin Raney, and Bobby (Merlee) Raney, son in law Danny Walton, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Norma was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on October 15, 1931 to Gurney Mischal and Mary (Smith) Mischal. Norma was the last surviving member of the Mischal and Raney families and leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, caring for others, and devotion to God, her church, and to her family and loved ones.

Norma graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1949 and on May 16, 1953 she married the love of her life, Philip Spencer Raney. Norma and Phil were blessed to spend 67 years together and build a beautiful life for their sons Phil, Kevin, Bobby, and their precious daughter Michele.

Known as Norma Jean, Mom, Grandma, and Aunt Norma, she was a dedicated lifelong member of Floral Baptist Church in Massieville where she served as a deaconess, youth Sunday school teacher, and could always be found working tirelessly and joyfully at church functions alongside the many wonderful ladies of Floral Baptist.

Norma retired from the WearEver Aluminum Plant, where she made many friends and was known as a hard worker with a beautiful spirit.

Mom loved her family and she supported each of us in all of our pursuits, whether it be sports, music, or drama, and she especially enjoyed Michele's endeavors as a beauty pageant contestant.

Dad gave us tough love and Mom loved on us as only a Mother can. Mom's beautiful and caring spirit, always ready to sacrifice herself for others, is what we will remember and what we will miss, but we don't have to worry anymore because Mom is alright now. No more pain and suffering, no more worries, because Norma Jean is free, resting in the arms of Jesus with family and loved ones.

We thank God for blessing us with an Angel on earth who just happened to be our Mom, our Grandma, our Aunt Norma...our Norma Jean.

We thank our beautiful family and friends who took the time to visit and help lift Mom's spirits, and we thank the wonderful team at National Church Residences for the love and support that you gave to Mom and our family. We will be forever grateful to you all.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the Haller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation from 11:00am until the time of the service.
