May 31, 1940 — December 25, 2024

Norma Jean (Netter) Beverly, 84, of Chillicothe, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, December 25, 2024, at her family home.

She was born May 31, 1940, in Chillicothe, daughter of the late Scott and Sarah (Sewards) Netter. On September 18, 1957, she married the love of her life, Robert L. Beverly, Sr., who preceded her in death on September 10, 2002.

Surviving are her children, Robert (Shelley) Beverly, and Kye Beverly; her grandchildren, Tara Beverly, and Derek (Abbey) Beverly; her great-grandson, Nyjah Beverly; three siblings, Martin Lee (Patty) Netter, Tana (Scott) Brady; and Darris (Curtis) Lewis; a special friend, Dr. Jean Kearney; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Scott (Marilyn) Netter; special cousins, Barbara Liggins and Gary Jenkins; and special friends, Glenna Dyer, Birdie Hickman, and surviving Nancy Harris, and all her Ohio University Chillicothe (OU-C) coworkers and students.

Norma Jean was a graduate of Chillicothe High School. She went on to become the Financial Aide Advisor at Ohio University in Chillicothe, where she retired after more than 30 years of employment. One of her greatest joys was taking care of the newly enrolled students at OUC and helping them fulfill their dreams of gaining a college education. She was proud of her children and grandchildren who all graduated with Degrees from Ohio University and ordained before her passing that Nyjah her 2-yr old great grandson will grow up to earn his PhD. In her personal life, she attended Emanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church in Chillicothe. She was also a founding member of the Black Improvement Corporation (BIC) and a past active member of the NAACP. In her free time, she loved traveling the world with family and friends, whether it was going on small day trips, taking vacations, and even cruises across the globe.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the Zion Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. J. Troy Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation on Saturday from 11:00am until the time of the service.
