Nolan C. Gray Nolan C. "Jimmie" Gray, 88, of Chillicothe, died March 2, 2008 in the VA Medical Center, Chillicothe. DUE TO THE WEATHER CONDITIONS, FUNERAL SERVICES HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR 3:00 PM SUNDAY IN THE CHARLESTON CHURCH OF BRETHREN. FRIENDS MAY CALL 1-3 PM AT THE CHURCH. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, of which Jimmie was a member for more than 20 years, will follow in the church cemetery. The Honor Guard will serve as his pall bearers. He was born May 26, 1919 in Tucson, OH to Clayton and Jessie Polen Gray. On July 21, 1950 he married Garnett A. Strausbaugh, who died July 3, 1998. Survivors include a brother, William Gray, of Chillicothe; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Ken Strausbaugh and his family; and a special friend, Blanche Hettinger. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Reada Gray and Mildred Gray Mitten. Nolan retired from the Mead Corp. in 1978 following 32 yeas of service. He was one of the first to volunteer and sign up for the draft in 1941. He went to active duty February 6, 1941 and was honorable discharged September 26, 1945. He saw combat in Europe with E Company 353, Infantry 89th Division, 3rd Army. Among his service medals are a Bronze Star and a Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of the Bridge St. Church of Christ, the Ross Co. Senior Citizens, an honorary member of the Harrison Twp. Fire Dept., a member of the Charleston Church of Brethren before moving to Chillicothe, a life member of the American Legion Post 62, AMVETS Post 4, and the VFW Post 108.
