Nicholas Barker

Nicholas "Nick" Adolphus Barker, 86 years old, of Chillicothe, died at his home on August 5, 2023, after a lengthy illness.  Nick was born September 17, 1936, to Ralph "Pete" A. Barker and Gladys Mae (Drummond).  He married Jean (Herrnstein) Barker on October 6, 1962.  Nick was a Chillicothe High School graduate, Class of 1954, and went on to graduate from Ohio University with a degree in Journalism.

He will be missed by his wife Jean; daughter Jill Barker Bucci, Grove City, daughter Tracy Barker, Hilliard; and grandson Joey Bucci, Hilliard.  Nick is also survived by sister Marsha Skinner, Panama City, FL, and brother-in-law Bill (Linda) Herrnstein.

Nick proudly served in the United States Army as a Morse Code Interpreter.  He worked at Logistics Command Headquarters at Wright-Patterson AFB and retired in 1993 after 30+ years.

While Nick was an avid OSU football fan attending many home games and tailgating with friends, one of his fondest memories was meeting and talking with Woody Hayes who signed an autograph for Nick.  Golf was also a favorite past-time and he was sure to be on the links with his pals from 1 ^st grade: Dick Goshorn and Tom Hardman.  They could always be found at the 19 ^th hole with a cold beverage.  He was also proud of his hole-in-one at the Jay-Cee's golf course.

In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes will be placed in the Greenlawn Cemetery Columbarium with private military graveside services for the family at a future date.  The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to NCR Hospice, Dr. Robert Violette, and Haller Funeral Home for their care and compassion.
