Neil Scott, 89, of Londonderry, passed away in his sleep, at his family home and farm on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, following a courageous battle with cancer. During the weeks preceding his death, he was surrounded by the love and support of family and friends. His wife, Cindy, of 64 years never left his side the many weeks prior to his death. His constant and loving caregiver until the end. He was a faithful member of Londonderry Community Methodist Church. His Christian faith remained strong throughout and he attended church weekly until May when his illness prevented him from attending in person services. That did not stop Neil from celebrating his faith and the Sunday prior to his death he woke up at 6:00am requesting to watch one of his favorites, "cowboy church" on tv. Neil was born in Vinton County, Ohio on January 2, 1934 to the late Howard and Mabel (Ratcliff) Scott. He is survived by his wife, Cindy (Weir) and their four children, Mark (Tammy), Jay, Steve, and Julie (Matt) Cowan. In addition to taking great pride in his children, he had a favorite furry companion named Roxy (often referred to as the favorite child). He was "Papaw" to many and loved to provide tractor rides on one of his many antique tractors to Nathan (Stefanie) Scott, Bud (Chelsea) Scott, Anna Kate (Tom) Brown, Ashley Scott, and Alexa and Avery Cowan. He enjoyed watching his great-grandchildren explore the farm as well, Owen and Emma Brown, and Hunter and Peyton Scott. He was the third oldest of 10 children. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Howard Junior, Jerry, Mike (Carol), Ralph and sister, Betty. He is survived by siblings, Curt (Nola) Scott, Harold (Nola Kay) Scott, Ann Mollohan (Robert), Margie Atwood, sister-in-law, Linda Scott, brother-in-law, Curt Hines as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Neil was a US Army veteran and retired from UPS many years ago, but continued to work the farm until he was 87. His passions were his family, antique tractors, tractor pulling and his faith. He loved to show off pictures of his tractors and trophies from the events he attended with his tractors. He requested a celebration of life at a later date in July. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
