Morris James Hartley, 93, of Chillicothe, died at 4:23am January 4, 2023, while being cared for at his daughter's home in Commercial Point. He was born August 8, 1929, in Wellston, OH, to the late Luther L. and Margaret (Morris) Hartley. On July 24, 1951, he married the former Linda L. Potter, who preceded him in death April 20, 2012. Surviving are their children: Nancy Lin Keppler, Galena, OH; James Alan (Starr) Hartley, Chillicothe; M. Jack (Beverly) Hartley, Wilmington, DE; Kerry Lou (Thomas) Congrove, Commercial Point, OH; grandchildren: Dustin (Tia) Manring; Kristen Keppler; Matthew Keppler; Jack Andrew (Nora) Hartley; Thomas James (Michelle) Congrove; Mitchell Andrew Congrove; great-grandchildren: Colton Kyle Manring, Landon Alan Manring, James Patrick Hartley, Nicola Lin Hartley, Claire Rose Hartley; his brother John Hartley; sisters Loretta Betts, Mary McCray, Jeannie (Keith) Jordan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Linda; his daughter Linda Susan Smith; sisters Anna Belle Linton and Martha Gilliland; and brothers Thomas L. "Junior," Bob and Donald E. Hartley. Morris was a graduate of Wellston High School and served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated top of his class from the Air Force school for Diesel Mechanics. He had worked as a mechanic and other jobs. He retired from B & O, Chessie and CSXT Railroads after 33 years. He was a member of Tyler Memorial UMC, the VFW, American Legion, and Lifetime member of the Grange. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing and listening to music, especially playing his guitar and harmonica. His funeral service will be held at 2pm Saturday, January 7, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Jim Wade officiating. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery.
