Michael Ray Whiting, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, at the age of 73 in his hometown of Chillicothe, Ohio. Born on February 17, 1953, Michael lived a life marked by dedication, service, and joy.
A proud graduate of Unioto High School, Michael went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy. After completing his service, he dedicated over two decades as a manager in the Salvage operation industry, demonstrating a tireless work ethic and a commitment to excellence.
Michael was a devoted member of the Moose Lodge and brought his easy-going spirit to everything he did. A gifted woodworker, he spent many of his cherished moments crafting beautiful pieces, a reflection of his patience and attention to detail. He also enjoyed working on vehicles and taught this passion to his son. He also relished the excitement of watching races at K-C Raceway, a pastime he frequently enjoyed with family and friends.
Michael cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his loving children, Katie Whiting, and Michael (Katie) Whiting, who continued to bring joy and pride to his life. He was the doting grandfather of Tianna, Bayleigh, Amiyah, Juliauna, Kayanna, Anhalla, Torian, Ameena, Azariyah, Michael, Keira, and Kaylee. Michael's warmth and humor will be deeply missed by his surviving sisters, Diane (Grover) Temple and Gaila (Tommy) Thompson, as well as, Clara Throckmorton, his life long friend, and his numerous nieces and nephews that he loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George Whiting and Ruth (Newland) DeLong, his brother, Ronald Whiting, and his sister, Karen Whiting. Michael leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a life well-lived.
Michael Ray Whiting will be remembered for his kindness, his indomitable spirit, and the love he shared with everyone he met. Although he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know him. In honoring Michael's memory, his family invites those who knew and loved him to celebrate his life, cherishing the laughter and warmth he spread.
In keeping with Michael's wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Haller Funeral Home & Crematory.
