Michael Porter

February 23, 1947 — July 9, 2012

Michael C. Porter, 65, of Chillicothe, died at 6:05pm Monday, July 9, 2012, in Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended and courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 23, 1947, in Chillicothe to the late Francis C. and Clara A. (Bowdle) Porter. On August 14, 1976, he married Pamela S. Taffe, who survives. Also surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Cari and Nate Steinbrook, Chillicothe; his sister Ann (John) Reidenbach, Tampa, FL; his brother David (Linda) Porter, Chillicothe; sisters-in-law Linda (Roger) Robinson; Toni (John) Watters; brothers-in-law Joseph (Elaine) Taffe; and Michael (Marilyn) Taffe; numerous nieces and nephews; and his favorite dog, "Saydi Sue." In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father -in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Iva (Stone) Taffe. Mike was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, Class of 1965. He served his country in the US Air Force as an airplane mechanic during the Vietnam War and then worked as a maintenance supervisor for the former Budd Company. He then consulted as a Six Sigma Black Belt in maintenance and fabrication giving him the opportunity to travel all over the world. In most recent years he obtained his CDL & drove for Petron Oil until his full retirement in 2009. Mike was a member of the American Legion, Post 62; the BPO Elks No. 52; F & AM Scioto Lodge 6; the Ross Co. Shrine Club; and the Cigar Band. He was an avid softball player and coach in both Chillicothe and Frankfort and enjoyed participating in the Chillicothe Paints Fantasy Camp. Mike loved to go to KC Raceway with his "Bro" and truly enjoyed being a member of the pit crew for his nephews and he was also a lifelong member of the Chillicothe Enduro Riders. At his request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Following cremation, friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, July 25, from 4-8pm at the Elks Lodge, 42 W. Second St. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael C. Porter Memorial Fund, c/o WesBanco, 49 E. Water St., Chillicothe, or any WesBanco branch.
