With a profound sense of sadness and loss, the Matter family of Chillicothe celebrates the life of Michael Carl Matter, who died Friday, November 28, 2014 at the James Cancer Center at The Ohio State University Medical Center. Michael was born September 25, 1945 to Paul H. and Mary G. Matter and was raised in Montoursville, PA with sister Paula Matter Richmond and brother David Matter. He attended Montoursville High School, earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Temple University in 1968 and an MBA from Ohio University in 1984. In over forty years of pharmacy service, Michael served as the director of pharmacy at the Medical Center Hospital of Ross County, Licking Memorial and Berger Hospitals, and the Mead Family Medicine clinic, as well as secretary of the Ohio Society of Hospital Pharmacists. He retired in 2011 as a pharmacist at the VA hospital and worked most recently at Anderson's Drug Store in Chillicothe. Michael was a deeply loved husband, father and friend. He knew few strangers. He will always be remembered for his deep generosity, care, and fun-loving nature. He was a member of Grace Community Church, served in the pharmacy at the Hope Clinic and organized local support groups for those battling prostate cancer. He is survived by his wife Pamela, children: Drew and wife Susie, Graham and wife Tancy, Abby and Alex, and grandchildren: Mary, Katherine, Joon, and John. We will miss him beyond words. A service to celebrate Michael's life will be held at Haller Funeral Home, Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 1pm. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call from 11am-1pm Saturday. The Matter family invites anyone who knew and loved Michael to join us as we remember the impact he had in our lives with thankfulness and hope.
