Melvin Floyd States, 80, of Chillicothe, passed away at 8:33 am on February 22, 2025, following a brief illness.
He was born on October 3, 1944 in Pueblo, Colorado to the late Floyd and Alice (Dykstra) States. On August 17, 1976 he married the late Eva (Hollis) States.
Also surviving are his son Bryan (Diana McDowell) States, of Londonderry; stepson Scott (Laura) Diehl, of Chillicothe; stepdaughter Christine (Tracy) Knight, of Londonderry, six grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Fred (PJ) Thomas, of Columbus, Indiana; and two sisters, Elaine States, of New Jersey, and Ella Mae Focht of Cleveland, Ohio.
Melvin graduated from Southeastern High School in 1962. After high school he went on to join the United States Navy where he was a radio operator and then retired from the United States Navy Reserves in 1980. After his deployment he came back to Chillicothe and worked at Chillicothe Correctional Institution as a Prison Guard until his retirement in 2008. In his free time, he enjoyed growing roses at his home and being a member of the Radio Airplane Club, NRA, and the Conservation League.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Haller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Thursday.
