Melvin Cecil Poling, 85, of Chillicothe, passed away Saturday morning, October 13, 2018, at his home, following an extended illness.
He was born in Circleville, Ohio to the late Merle and Wava (Lindsey) Poling. On March 18, 1953, he married Julia C. (Martin) Poling, and together they shared over 65 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Melvin Dean (Kay) Poling, of Lima, Ohio, Juliana (Wray) Jordan, of Frederick, Maryland, Jonathan Brent (Debbie) Poling, of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Rhonda Poling, also of Chillicothe, Ohio; 8 grandchildren, Lori, Megan, Stephanie, Katie, Bob, Daniel, Chelsey, and Tyler "Boomer"; numerous great-grandchildren, 2 nephews, and one niece. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Jeffery, a brother Ralph, and a sister Mary.
Melvin was an honorably discharged US Navy Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He went on to work at DuPont in Circleville, Ohio as a stationary engineer for more than 35 years before his retirement in 1991. He attended the Liberty Baptist Church in Chillicothe, and was a volunteer with the VA Medical Center for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, going golfing and bowling with his wife Julia.
A visitation will be held from 5:00pm-8:00pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Haller Funeral Home. Military graveside honors will take place in Grandview Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
