Melvin R. Heraldson, 94, of Chillicothe, passed away on Wednesday evening, May 8, 2024 at his home, following an extended illness.
He was born December 15, 1929, in Circleville, Ohio, son of the late Finus and Gladys (Groves) Heraldson. On July 16, 1955, he married his beloved wife, Mary P. (Bateson) Heraldson, who survives.
Also surviving is their daughter, Debbie Wheeler; granddaughter, Holly Wheeler; three great-grandchildren, Kiara, Chloe, and Sophie; a brother-in-law, Richard Bateson; a sister-in-law, Pamela Kaltenbach; as well as numerous other extended family members and friends.
Melvin was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a paratrooper. He went on to work and retire from the Container Corporation in Circleville after many years of employment. He was also a lifelong member of the American Legion in Chillicothe. In his free time, he could frequently be found outside working in the yard or fixing things around the house. He enjoyed going fishing, spending time outdoors, and mowing his lawn. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and will forever be remembered for his ability to tell a great joke.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public calling hours or services. The family will host a small family celebration at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ross County Humane Society in his honor.
