Melissa Nelson

Melissa J. Nelson, 39, of Chillicothe, died Thursday, January 20, 2011, at her mother's home, following a nine month battle with cancer. She was born October 2, 1971 in Chillicothe. On August 29, 1992 she married Alex A. Nelson, who survives. Also surviving are her parents, Hannah J. and Willis W. Tackett and Dorsey Montgomery Jr; her children, Jordan Lee and Hannah Ann Nelson, both at home; a Goddaughter, Ella Morehead, of Chillicothe; two sisters, Sue Ann (Richard) Carroll and Stephanie (Scott) Morehead, both of Chillicothe; two brothers, Shawn (Christy) Montgomery, of Chillicothe and Kevin (Jill) Montgomery, of Springfield; her mother-in-law, Patricia (Richard) Montgomery; two step-sisters, Dottie Sue (Joe) Preston and Lynette Thomas; several nieces and nephews; and her dog Hunter. Mrs. Nelson had several very close friends at Ross Co. Job and Family Services, where she was employed as a clerical typist. She was a member of Schooley Chapel Community Church. She loved spending time with her children. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Haller Funeral Home, Kenneth Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Roland Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 pm Monday at Haller's. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ross Co. Banking Center for the benefit of her children's education.
