Mary Ellen Wright, 89, of Chillicothe, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at her home.
She was born December 24, 1933 in Chillicothe, daughter of the late George and Edith (Hammond) Lynch. On April 3, 1952, she married her beloved husband, Donald "Duke" Lee Wright, and together they shared over 61 years of marriage before his passing October 14, 2013.
Surviving are their children, Nelson (Diane Lynch) Wright and Linda Wright; grandson, Shannon Wright; great-grandchildren, Brandon Wright and Jordon Wright; her brother, Don (Betty Wages) Lynch; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A special mention to close cousins, Pat Smith, Kenny Lynn, and Betsey Davis. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Corby, Jack, George, Dick, Lester, Rodney "Skeezy", and Robert; and her sisters, Ina Jane, Fern, Annabelle, Bonnie, and Marcella.
Mary Ellen was a member of the Quinn Chapel AME Church in Chillicothe for many years. She enjoyed attending services until her health deteriorated and prevented her from going. She worked as a distinguished seamstress in the Chillicothe area for all of her life, having worked for JC Penney, The Men's Shop, and even the Chillicothe Hospital. Even outside of work, Mary Ellen used her sewing skills to help others by altering tuxedos, dresses, business outfits, and other clothing items for neighbors, family members, and friends alike.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, November 13, 2023 at the Quinn Chapel AME Church with Rev. Victor L. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may join the family from 11:00am until the time of the service for visitation.
