Mary Shrout

January 26, 1929 — July 15, 2006

Mary A. "Nancy" Shrout, 77, of Chillicothe, OH, passed away at 6:08pm Saturday, July 15, 2006, in Mt. Carmel West, Columbus, OH, after a long and courageous fight against emphysema and related illnesses. Nancy was born January 26, 1929, in Cumberland, MD, to Archibald and Margaret "Maggie" Rae Watt, who are now deceased. She was also predeceased by two sisters Betty R. Watt, of Cumberland, and Jean R. Long, Newport News, VA. Nancy loved to travel, seeing new places and meeting new people. Her father, mother, and older sister Betty were born in Scotland. It was always Nancy's desire to see the home of her parents and finally meet and visit with her relatives. She was fortunate to be able to go several times, saying that each visit was better and more enjoyable than the one before. On her last visit, she became ill before reaching her destination in Scotland and we had to return home early. The beginning effects of emphysema were beginning to take its toll. Nancy and William J. "Bill" Shrout were married in Cumberland on August 9, 1947, and were just shy of their 59th Wedding Anniversary. Left to grieve but cherish her memory is her loving and devoted husband, Bill. She also leaves behind her brothers-in-law and their wives Donald and Wanda Lee (Loeber) Shrout, of Cumberland; and Vernon and Valerie (Cranmer) Shrout, of West Creek, NJ, as well as several nieces and nephews. Toward the end, she was unable to speak, but the last thing she scribbled on a note pad was, "I might not make it, but remember that I love you." Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, July 20, at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, MD, 21502. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Local arrangements are under the arrangements of Haller Funeral Home. Her online guestbook is also available at www.scarpellifh.com
