Mary Pettiford

Mary R. Pettiford Mary R. Harris Pettiford, 87, of Chillicothe, died 10:15 am Thursday, November 17, 2005, in her daughter's home, following an extended illness. She was born June 16, 1918 in Ross Co. to John L. and Josephine O. Lett Davis. On February 23, 1935 she married Harold Harris, who preceded her in death. On February 9, 1983 she married Ralph Pettiford, who also preceded her in death. Survivors include her children, Norma Jean Strauder, Paul E. Harris, Edith Mae Woodard, and Judy Bell Tanner; grandchildren, Terry L. Robinson, Paul Harris Jr., Jay Brewton, Jerry Harris, Robin Greene, Lee Ann Rutherford, Melvena Lewis, Rev. Melvin Woodard III, Dr. Martin J. Woodard, Monica Woodard Brown, Matthew Woodard, Harold J. Tanner, and James R. Tanner II; several great-grandchildren; a brother Scott Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers. Mrs. Pettiford was a member and served as President of the Deaconess Board, and 50 year member of the First Baptist Church, and a member of the Old Gospel Choir. She was a retired Cafeteria Manager from the Chillicothe City School System. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday, in the First Baptist Church, Rev. Jonathan McReynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call 3-5 pm Sunday in the Haller Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
