Mary Mccoy

July 14, 1928 — September 1, 2024

Mary Sue McCoy passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at the age of 96.  Mary Sue was born on July 14, 1928 in Chillicothe to John Franklin and Minnie Viola (Rittenhouse) Rowe. She married Donald Dean McCoy, the love of her life, on February 11, 1947.

Mary Sue is survived by her two children, Michael (Datha) McCoy and Cynthia (Terry) Whiteside, 4 Grandchildren, Natasha (Michael), Christopher, Lauren (Daniel), and William (Madeline), seven Great-Grandchildren, Madilyn (William), Macy, Meredith, Noah, Lillian, William, and Oliver, and one Great-Great Grandchild on the way.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald in 2015, three sisters, Emma Jean Rowe, Patricia Rowe Wade, Pauline Anna Rowe and her beloved dogs Cuddles and Gracie.

Mary was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and spent over 30 years working at Unioto Elementary School, and also served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She was known as an avid Ohio State University fan and Attended as many sporting events as she could for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed black coffee, often up to two pots a day.

To Mary Sue, family was everything! She went from singing nursery rhymes while pushing them on the swings in their youth, to making them sing crazy songs like Been a Faucet and Cannibal King as they got older. She also always sat in the back seat of the car, so that she could play games with her children and grandchildren during long trips. She had many famous phrases and pieces of advice that she left for her family, including "Work before play" and "Never pass up a pitstop." On top of this, she often said to her children and grandchildren "See ya later alligator" before waving goodbye, to which they would reply "After while crocodile."

The family would like to thank her longtime neighbors and family friends as well as The Inn at Walnut Trail and Capital City Hospice for their care during her last part of her life.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 9th, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Haller Funeral Home followed by burial at Greenlawn Cemetery, Chillicothe.  Friends may call 1 hour prior to the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Unioto Athletic Boosters.
