Evangelist Mary Ellen Harris, 83, of Chillicothe, died 9:30 pm, April 2, 2011, at her home, following a brief illness. She was born May 24, 1927 in Chillicothe to Bernard E. and Ethel E. Jones Cooper. On February 10, 1953 she married Obadiah Harris Jr., who survives. Also surviving are her sons, Obadiah (Karen) Harris, of Chillicothe and Timothy (Tanya) Harris, of Indianapolis, IN; 7 grandchildren, Obadiah E. (Andrea), Karrin, Brandon (Angie), Bradley, and Timothy II (Andrea) Harris, Taquoya (Eldon) Porter and Brooke (Houmed) Garad; 6 great-grandchildren, Donavin, Zion, Ethan, Erin, Lindsay and Timothy III; a sister, Barbara Cooper; a daughter-in-law, Betty Jo Harris; an aunt, Mabel Morton; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Kathleen Netter and Gordon and Sonja Smith. She was preceded in death by a son, Bernard Harris; 3 sisters, Annabelle Brown, Roberta Hickman and Kay Cooper; and a brother, Bernard Cooper Jr. Mrs. Harris was an ordained evangelist, a faithful member, and former pastor at the Lifting Up Jesus Church, under her son Obadiah Harris. She was well known throughout the Midwest as she traveled sharing the Gospel. She was a student of the Word of God and loved teaching Sunday school. Her devotion to God and her family was felt by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, at the Original Glorious Church of God in Christ, 123 W. Main St., Chillicothe, with her sons, Pastors Obadiah and Timothy Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may call 9-11 am at church on Saturday.
