Mary Greer

Mary Margaret Greer, 81, of Chillicothe, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, December 19, 2016, following a brief illness. She was born September 13, 1935, in Chillicothe, to the late David and Margaret (Noth) Towell. On August 19, 1954, she married Eugene Victor Greer, who preceded her in death in February 1986. Mary is survived by her six children, Michael A. Greer, Mary L. (Bruce) Watts, Martha A. Greer, Marcia E. Lechner, Marilynn E. Greer, all of Chillicothe, and Margie E. (Bill) Collet, of Canton, MI; her grandchildren, Brandan Peterson, of Chillicothe, Anthony (Emily) Watts, of Columbus, Matt Watts, of CA, Jackie Collet, of MI, Michael Collet, of MI, and Lindsay Noll, of Columbus; two great-grandchildren, Irie Peterson and Camilah Peterson, of Chillicothe; a brother, David B. Towell II, of Frankfort; a niece, Mary Beth Napolitano; and a nephew, David B. Towell III. Mary was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Chillicothe, and Ohio University. She was a teacher for more than 40 years before her retirement where she taught at St. Peter's, Western Elementary, and also Worthington Elementary. She was a devoted member at St. Peter Catholic Church and was active in the Divine Mercy Cenacle as well as their knitting club. Much of Mary's life involved her love for St. Peter Catholic Church. She supported the Prison Ministry, the Lakota Indian Reservation as well as the Miryante Orphanage in Uganda. Formerly, Mary was a National Gymnastics Judge, traveling to many different judging events. In her free time, she loved going to the YMCA and taking group swimming classes. She was also an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Thursday, December 22, at St. Peter Catholic Church, Rev. Sean Dooley, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. At her request, calling hours will not be observed.
