Mary Cottrill

Mary Virginia Smith Cottrill, age 103, was born August 17, 1918, the daughter of Hazel and Walter B. Smith.   On September 3, 1940, Mary married George A. Cottrill who died in January 1993. Mary was also predeceased by her brother Robert W Smith in 1996; sister, Ruth Evelyn (Billie) McKinnis Shepherd in 2004; niece, Cheryl Ann McKinnis Roach in 2002; and her dear friend Karen Sue Day in 2021.   Mary is survived by her daughter, Charlotte A Cottrill and nieces, Bobbi Smith, Kathleen Smith Detty, Mary Smith Whisler, Sandra Smith Haas, their children and grandchildren; and by special friends Rose and Harry Benson, Janie White, Laura Thompson, Margie Prince and Cheryl Prince Godfrey.   Mary loved to sing, play euchre, take walks, work crossword puzzles, and watch old classic movies. She often praised the care and patience of the nurses and staff at Hopeton Village.   In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no visiting hours or services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ross County Humane Society, 2308 A Lick Run Rd, Chillicothe, OH 45601; or the Salvation Army.  Please remember Mary by making time to reach out to a friend or family member, do a favor for someone, or have a good laugh with someone special. Mary loved to laugh and laugh with all who brightened her life.
