Martin James Barlage, 79, of Chillicothe, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday night, February 8, 2018, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born June 14, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Robert M. and Alberta (Keating) Barlage. On July 25, 1958, he married Joanne Louise (Everhart) Barlage, who preceded him in death on May 30, 2015. Surviving are their children, Brenda K. (Richard) French, of Beaver, and David A. (Denise) Barlage, of Piketon; their great-granddaughter Mackenzie K. Daniels, whom they raised; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers, Michael (Shirley) Barlage, of Washington, Henry (Carolyn) Barlage, of Chillicothe; and George (Brenda) Barlage, of North Carolina; his close friend, Bernice McCoy, of Gahanna; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. In addition to his parents and wife Joanne, Martin was preceded in death by a daughter Susan McComis, a son James B. Barlage, and his brother William Arthur Barlage. Martin worked as an electrician and retired from Mead Paper Company after 50 years of employment. He was a US Navy veteran and served on the USS Bream. He was a scout master and an assistant scout master for the Boy Scout Troop 14, and was also a member of the Catholic Church. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time at the Ross County Senior Citizens center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Rev. Sean Dooley, Celebrant. A private military graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Huntington Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00-11:30am at the Haller Funeral Home.
